Psalm 42

A deer panting for water is not a peaceful picture. It is an animal that has been running for its life, exhausted, desperate, on empty. That is the image the writer of Psalm 42 reaches for when he describes his own soul before God. Not a polished prayer. Not a tidy spiritual mood. Desperation.
